Lewis Phebus is appoint’d Overseer of the Road from the Forks of the road near Town to Mark Pattersons Road.

Joseph Woods is appointed Overseer of the Road from the cross Roads to Wake County Line in the Room of Samuel May.

Agreeable to the prayer of a Petition exhibited to this Court, Order’d that the following Jury make out & lay off a new Road from Barnet Troxdales on the great Allemance the nearest & best way towards Chatham Court House as far as Chatham Line – to wit: Jno Graves, Jno Albright, Mallakiah Fogleman, Nicholas Gibbs, Geo Loy, Joseph Albright, James Holmes, Danl Freeman, Jacob Marchel, Lewis Hornaday, Geo & Aaron Sharp and make return thereof to next Court.

Wm Nunn is excused from his Attendance as Juror at the Term for Reasons shewn to the Court.

Administration of the Estate of Jno Hall Snr Dec’d is granted [blank]

[OCPQS 4/22 - May 1787 - similar to OCPQS 3/643 & 644]

Ordered that Alice Murphey an Orphan Girl be Bound to Eli Lindsey until she arrives to lawful age. [Both William Nash & Samuel Benton were in court at this Term – Benton as Clerk of Court and Nash as a juror, though he was also one of the Justices of the Peace. According to her Apprentice Bond (image 130), Alice or Alsey was just 14 at this time. She would go on to have three children out of wedlock - with Nash in 1795 when she was 22, with Benton in 1798 when she was 25 and again with Nash in 1802 when she was 29. Both Benton at OCPQS 5/465 and Nash at OCPQS 6/334 were ordered to pay Murphey child support. Apparently as part of his child support, Benton deeded her lot 86 in Hillsborough at ODB 8/348. Murphey married William Dodd in Wake County in 1805.]

Ordered that Benjamin Nicholson an Orphan Boy, aged 13 years the 19th Inst., be bound [to] Wm Holloday until he arrives to lawful Age to learn the B-Smith trade. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 126.]

Thomas Cates has leave to build a Mill on his own Land, and that the same when built become a public Mill. [See Dunaway’s Mill Records, page 34?]

James Taylor is qualify’d as Deputy Sheriff under Jas Nichols Esqr.

Archibald Lytle, Josiah Watts & Jno G Rencher or any two of them are appointed to examine & make Report to this Term of the Executorship of Trice Executor of Trice.

& that the Defendant tenderd two Horse Creatures & four French Crowns & also produced & offerd a third Horse Creature ready to be valued in case the other property had not been Sufficient to Discharge the Plaintiffs Demand that the two horse Creature were not of Value sufficient but that the three were more than sufficient which the Jury think it an ample Tender & they find a Verdict for the Defendant.

No 22. Meek & Hostler vs Luttrels Admr & Harts} Debt. Same Jury sworn as to Number 20. Find for the Plaintiff £68.3.6 & costs of Suit.

Ordered that the Sheriff of Orange County direct the Commissioners & undertakers of the Bridge over the Allemance River, at the old trading ford to Stop all further proceedings to vig concerning the building the Bridge, until the next County Court by reason that the Commissioners for the leting out the same were not present at the leting out of the sd Bridge farther that the said Bridge is let out at a much higher Som than was offerd when the Commissioners were present agreeable to the Order.
