Ordered that an orphan Child be bound of Samuel
Gappin of the age of Three years be bound to Robert Holms until he arrives to
Lawful age to learn the art and mistery of a Cooper. [See Apprentice Bonds,

Wm Jamison is appointed overseer of the road from Andrew
Griffins Spring branch to Caswell County line in the room of An Andrew
Griffin.
Wm Moore is appointed overseer of the road from Elinor
Morris to Isaac Tinnens in the room of Wm Kirk.
Jonathan Jones is appointed overseer of the road from Col?
Mebanes to the Meadow Meeting house in the room of Reuben Smith.
Martin Palmer is appointed overseer of the road from Col
Bentons Mill to Brice Collins in the room of Thomas Beane.

Wm Bradford is appointed overseer of the road new
road from the finding rock to the hill on the South side of back Creek where
the road crosses Edwards Picket road that leads to Alex Mebanes Saw mill.
Ordered that the following hands work under him on the road, to wit: John
Walker, William Hughs, James Murray, little? William Murray, Walter Morrow,
Rob’t & Jesse Fulton, Henry Terrel & Edw’d Picket.
Wm Strudwick is appointed overseer of the road from the hill
on the South side of back Creek where the road crosses Edw’d Pickets road that
leads to Alex Mebanes saw mill to old Col Mebanes. Ordered that the following
hands work under him on the same: Dav’d Mebanes hands, then hand of Col
old Col Mebane, Wm Tate, John Tate, Tho Tate, Wm Davis, Joseph Lloyd, Alex Mebane,
John Hughs & the hands of Samuel Strudwick.
Zachariah Allen is exempt from the payment of Taxes in
future, for reason set forth to the Court in his petition.

Jacob Garrot is appoin exempt from the payment of a
poll Tax for reasons shewn the Court.
Ordered that Reuben Westmoreland be exempt from the payment
of a poll Tax for a Negro Slave Martin by reason of infirmity of the
said Negroe.
On the petition of Elizabeth Allison, Davis Allison &
Jno Taylor, ordered that a summons issue to Anne Pengerton [Pendleton] to
appear at the next Term and shew cause why she shall not be remov’d from the
Guardianship of Margaret & Robert Pengerton orphans of David Penderton
Dec’d.
Wm Hall is appoint’d Constable for the District of Hillsbo,
ordered that he enter into Bond according to Law.
James Allison is appointed overseer of the road from Caswell
line to James Clarks on the road that leads from James Clarks to Caswell Court
house.

road from his own house to Boyds Creek with the adjacent hands.
Peter Elmore is appointed overseer of the new road from
Boyds Creek to back Creek with the adjacent hands.
Richard Gott is appointed overseer of the new road from back
Creek to Haw Creek with the adjacent hands.
Robert Scoby is appointed overseer of the road new
road from Haw Creek to Haw river with the adjacent hands.
James Newland is appointed overseer of the new road from Haw
river to Chatham County line with the adjacent hands.

Wednesday morning 10 O’Clock 26th Aug’t 1789,
Court met according to Adjournm’t. Present: James Carson, Wm Nunn, John Sloss}

Ordered that an order made last T at November Term
1787 [OCPQS 4/80] for the binding of an orphan boy called Ebenezer Duwit
[Dewit] then of the age Sixteen years be recinded & that the said orphan be
bound to Wm Cooper to learn the art of a Weaver and with him to live until he
arrives at full age. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 98 & 99. On the bond the
name appears to be Ebenezer Huett.]
4. Benjamin Peelor vs Wm Picket} T Q C F. Jury sworn, to Wit:

find the Defend’t guilty & assess the plaintiffs Damages to 5/ & Costs.

On motion of Wm Galbreath Wm Philips for leave to
keep a Ferry over Haw River near Shaws ferry, opposite Wm Galbreaths
plantation, Ordered that he Have the said Wm have leave to keep a ferry
& that the same be held and deemed a public ferry. Samuel respon
Whereupon Samuel Shaw comes into Court & say that he is aggreiv’d by reason
of the premises & prays an apeal to the next Superior Court of Law
to be held for the District of Hillsborough at the Court house in Hillsbo on
the 1st day of April next, which is granted & he entered into
Bond accordingly. John Williams esq Atto for the said Samuel having filed
reasons agreable to Law.
Ordered that the following hands examine & mark out the
best & nearest way for the publick road to go Wm Mebanes branch along by
Richard Bulls Smith Shop into ????? road leading to Trolingers ford on Haw
River and that they make report to next Court: Hugh McAdams, Rob Fosset, Hugh

Geo Newton is appointed overseer of the road new road
from James Watsons ford on little river to Newtons Mill with the adjacent
hands.
James Latta is appointed overseer of the new road from
Newtons Mill to the trading road at the reading? house with the adjacent hands.
Order’d that the Sheriff expose to sale one house & Lott
the property of Jacob Richards & executed at the Instance of Ephraim Feree
to satisfy a Judgment of Eighteen pounds & nine pence with Int from May the
10th 1788 with cost of suit.
Administration of the Estate of Andrew Ross Dec’d is granted
to Alex Ross & John Allison who entered into Bond according to Law &
Quallified.
Ordered that the Sheriff expose to Sale the perishable property
of Andrew Ross Dec’d & make report to next.

find a Verd for the plaintiff & assess his Damages to 20/ & Costs.
License is granted Samuel Thompson to keep a Tavern at his
dwelling house in the town of Hillsbo & entered into Bond with Rob Furguson
& Henry O’Dannel Securities According to Law.

Ordered that James Hogg exr of Tho Burke Dec’d have leave to
sell all the Negroes to wit: Flora, Cate, Peter & Fran & other
perishable property of the estate of the said Dec’d in Order to discharge sundry
the Debts due from the estate of the said deceas’d due to sundry people
& that the said Executor report to next Court.
Ordered that Wm McIntire an orphan who was bound to
Andrew Brooks and has for some time been about from his said Masters service,
and is now in Court on a Motion to be discharged from his apprenticeship,
Ordered that he the said William McIntire return to the service of his said
Master and live with him according to the Tenure of covenant wit [blank] [Bond
not found.]

Moores to the Watters of new hope Woods road? in the room of Jno Cates.
Philip Walker is appointed overseer of the road that leads
from Caswell line to Hillsbo from the buck horn branch to Faucets Mill in the
room of Tho Loyd.
Samuel Parks is appointed overseer of the road in the room
of Isaac Dorris from Stony Creek to Gwins ford on Haw River.
Nicholas Harden is appointed overseer of the road from Stony
Creek to James Hutchinsons.
Wm Harper is appointed overseer of the road from Gwins ford
on Haw river to Caswell line.
Thomas Gwinn is appointed overseer of the new road from the
Cross road at Benjamin Peelor to the Cross road at Mitchums with the adjacent hands.
Ruebin Westmoreland is appointed overseer of the new road
from Mitchums cross road to the County line.
