Jury sworn as to Clendening, to Wit: James Hogg, Richard Christmas, Jno Mitchum, Geo Dannel, Jno Davis, Jno Cabe, James Kenneday, Wm Horne, Tho Horne, Lewis Jones, Sterling Harris, James Woody - find a verdict for the plaintiff for £128.0.0 & Costs.

James Ball is appointed overseer of the road from the Meeting house at the meadow to Caine Creek in the room of Tho Howard.

8. James Lambert vs Jno Allison} Detinue. Same Jury Sworn as to No 6 - find the Defendant does detain Jude and her issue and her issue as set forth in the plaintiffs declaration and that the both of the Negroes with their the damages for detention to are of the Value of £375 which may be discharged by the delivery of Jude and her issue & Costs. John Cain Moore is appointed overseer of the road from Caine to Chatham County line in the room of Richard Williams.

Ordered that two Base borne Children Mary Pickard & Martha Pickard of the age of 5 years be bound to Samuel Bon until they arrive at lawfull age. [Bonds not found.]

License is granted Andrew Patterson to keep a Tavern at his dwelling house on the road leading from Hillsbo to Halifax.

Ordered that Stephen Williams a Base born child of the age of five Years be bound to James Carry until he arrive to the age of Twenty one. [Bond not found.]

Stephen Ward is appointed overseer of the road from Caine Creek to Perkins’s muster ground in the room of Alexander Underwood.

Ordered that the Sheriff Jno Grant Rencher sell the perishable estate of John Patterson Dec’d at nine months Credit and make return thereof to next Court.

Ordered that the Sheriff expose to sale 200 acres of Land levied on by Execution from under the hand of Wm Lytle of the property of Joseph Dickson to satisfy James Bal[dridge?] in the Sum £11.12.3 with 9d costs.

Sterling Harris & Ro Ferguson are deemed sufficient Securities in an for Jacob Richards in his appeal at the Suit of Eli Collins.

Sam’l Benton is allowed Thirty five pounds for his Ex officio services as Clerk for one year preceeding this Date. Ordered that the County Treasurer pay the same.

70. The Trustees of the Hillsbo Academy vs John Wilson} appeal. Jury sworn, to wit: Wm Rountree, Dav’d Sloane, Frederick Williams, Jno Pugh, Frederick Taylor, Tho Cates, Wm Courtney, Mich Carrel, Sam’l May, Wm Clerk, Jno Davis, James Cheek - find for the plaintiffs three pounds with Interest from the 1st of Novem 1789 until paid this day & Costs.

Sam Steward & Wm McAdams are deem’d sufficient Securities in an appeal Sam’l Shaw agt Wm Galbreath respecting a ferry over Haw river.

Ordered that an Order made last Court on a petition for the opening of a new rode from John Sloss esq the nearest and best way to James Newlands at the Chatham line be renewed & that the Jurors named on the list laid in mark out and lay off the road.

28th Feb 1789. On motion of Jno Williams esq Atto for Benjamin Peelor for a new trial in the Suit suit of the said Benjamin Peelor against Wm Picket for a Trespass &c, Ordered that a new trial be granted from which Order and determination the Defendant prays an Appeal to the Superior Court which is granted.
