To the principals proper County to collusion to charge the bail surrender of the principal, death of the principal, release, discharge of the Bail by the Election of the Plaintiff to ??? out Fi Fa. Plaintiff says there is such record &c, Nul tut record as to former Judgment, as to plea of no Ca Sa plaintiff replies, Ca Sa to Orange where James Green was resident at the time the writ was sued out against him & he was arrested &c Def’t rejoins that at & before the time of issuing out the Ca Sa to Orange the prin resided in Edgecombe & the Plff has Notice thereof – Demurer to this rejoinder & Joinder? Ordered by the Court that Benjamin Rhodes the younger pay unto Rebecca Allen forty shillings immediately, five pounds on the first day of June next, and five pounds annually thereafter for four years for the support & maintenance of a bastard child begotten by him on the body of the said Rebecca wherewith she hath charged him. Forty shillings paid according to order. [See Bastardy Bonds, images 816, 843 & 845.]

Ordered by the Court that John Baldridge pay unto Elizabeth Kirby forty shillings immediately, five pounds on the first day of June next, and five pounds annually thereafter for four years for the support & maintenance of a bastard child begotten by him on the body of the said Elizabeth wherewith she hath charged him. Administration of the Estate of Andrew Trice dec’d is granted to Edward Trice, the widow of said Andrew coming in and relinquishing her right and enters into Bond with Mann Patterson his Sec in the Sum of £200. Ordered that the perishable Estate of said Deceased be sold. [See also administration OCPQS 6/145.]

Ordered that Owen Tudor Son of Lucy Tudor of the age of Seven years the 14th of Feb’y next be bound to Wm Crutchfield to learn the art & mistery of a Blacksmith. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 433, also OCPQS 6/357.]

Mary Hastings vs Rich’d Cate} Ordered that notice given to Richard Cate the Defendant to appear at next Court and shew cause if any he hath why an Execution may not issue against him for the arrears due the plaintiff the said Mary on an Order of this Court for the maintenance of a Bastard Child. Augustine Benton vs The Trustees of the University of North Carolina} This Cause coming on to be heard on the petition, Answer & Exhibits filed and after Verdict of the Jury finding the sum of Fifty One pounds two Shillings & three pence to be due the said Augustus from William A Richards in the petition named besides Costs and it being admitted by the Answer of the Defendants that they are in possession of the Lot or Tract of Land in the petition described viz lying and being in the Village of the University aforesaid, the fee Simple thereof being vested in them by title of Escheat – And it being alleged in the petition that there are not assets in the hands of the Administrator of said William (who is also the petitioner) sufficient to satisfy the said Debt or any part thereof, it is therefore ordered & decreed by this Court that Execution do issue against the said real Estate of the said William above described and that the same be sold by the Sheriff of Orange County to satisfy said Debt & Costs among which the

Administration of the Estate of Peyton Maddison Deceased is granted to William Maddison (it appearing to the Court that the Widow relinquishes her right) who enters into Bond with David Nutt and Joseph Guess his Securities in the Sum of £500. [See also inventory OCPQS 6/106.]

John Casey, Catlet Campbell and Wm Kirkland who were appointed to examine the accounts of David Ray as County Trustee report That he has received since the Twenty Ninth day of August the Sum of Four hundred & Fifty six pounds ten shillings & Eight pence and has paid away that term until this Date four hundred & Six pounds Seventeen Shillings & Seven pence and that there remains a balance in his hand of forty two pounds thirteen shillings & one penny.

David Rainey appointed County Trustee and enters into Bond with Catlet Campbell & Wm Kirkland his Sec’y.

Timothy Cate of lawful age comes into Court and chooses Mary Cates his Guardian who enters into bond with David Nutt & William Maddison in the Sum of £200.

Jesse Cate of lawful age comes into Court and chooses Mary Cates his Guardian who enters into bond with David Nutt & William Maddison her Securities in the Sum of £200.

Present: James Carson, Wm Shepperd, Sterling Harris, Absalom Tatom, Samuel Benton} Esqs. On the report of Sterling Harris the Treasurer of Public Buildings for the County, setting forth the necessity of removing and repairing the old Kitchen on the public Lott for the Gaoler, It is the opinion of the Court that Samuel Benton & Catlet Campbell be appointed commissioners for the removal and repairs of the said Building. And that a Tax of one penny on every hundred acres of Land, three pence on every poll and three pence on every £100 Value of Town property within the County of Orange be levied and collected in the year 1801 to defray the said Expences and that the Sheriff for the time being be the Collector thereof.
