Ordered that James Lindsey son of Rachel Harlow now of the age 12 Years 25th Sep’r next be bound to Obediah Harlow to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 451. Rachel Jameson’s illegitimate son James Lindsay had been previously bound to Matthew Lindsey at OCPQS 5/121. But now that she had married Obediah Harlow and she wanted to bring her boy home - see OMB G-H/529.]

Ordered that James Mason pay unto Salley Hurdle the Sum of Twenty Seven pounds for the Maintenance of a child of which James Mason stands charged according to Law of being the reputed father in the following proportion viz Seven pounds for the first Year and five pounds annually thereafter for four Years and that the said James be attorned all Sums of Money by him heretofore paid for the Support of said Child as a set off against this allowance. On Motion & Petition exhibited by Thomas Griffin, Ordered that the Sheriff Summon a Jury to view the road leading from Thompsons old field to near James Millican’s and also the Ground to the right of the old road from Tinnen’s old place to James Millicans or near there over which which a road is proposed to run, and if they shall be of Opinion that it will be conducive to the public good, that they lay off & mark out a new road as proposed & to report their opinion at large to next Court and the Damages which Individuals may Sustain.

Administration on the Estate of George Moore Dec’d is granted to Doct’r James Webb who enters into Bond with Henry Watters, William Norwood & William Kirkland his Securities in the Sum of £20,000. [See also guardianship OCPQS 6/602-603, litigation OCPQS 6/617, inventory OCPQS 6/630.]

Ordered that Colo Wm Shepperd be recused from the payment of Taxes in future for a Negro girl called Kitt, she being infirm.

John Jamieson & others vs Samuel Riggs & wife} Petition. This cause coming on to be heard on the petition, answer, Depositions and evidence, the Court are of opinion that the defendant Jane did not purchase the Negro Flora to the use of herself & child but to the use of herself only, and therefore that the said Flora and her children are not subject to be divided as prayed by the petitioners and that the price bid by the said Jane for the said Flora and her children as a reasonable price and that nothing more ought to be allowed the petitioners for them and the Court is further of opinion that the defendants ought to be charged and do charge them as follows viz:

A Deed of bargain and Sale from Caleb Harvey & Mary his wife to Robert Nail being exhibited for the probate the said Caleb appeared in open Court and ack’d the execution of the said Deed and thereupon the Court appointed James Carson one of the Justices of this Court to take the examination of the said

Mary Harvey privately and apart from her Husband and the said James Carson having examined the said Mary accordingly reported to the Court that she ack’d she had freely voluntarily and without ???tion coertion assented to the said conveyance and had executed the said Deed. On motion, the said Deed was ordered to be registered. [See ODB 11/253.]

Whereas it appears to the Court that the Estate of Malcom Baldridge and James Baldridge are indebted to a much greater amount than the whole personal Estate of the said Malcom and the part of the personal Estate of the said James Which was appropriated by him for the payment of his debts will respectively discharge, It is ordered on motion of David White guardian of Polly, James and Margarett Baldridge and of Stephen Baldridge guardian of Susannah, Charity, Martha and Josiah Baldridge Orphans of the said James Baldridge Dec’d that the said David White and Stephen Baldridge sell at public Sale and at Six months Credit all that part of the real Estate of their said Wards which they inherit from their Brother the said Malcom consisting of their shares in a Tract of Land called the Mill Tract willed to the said Malcom by the said James, Their share in four other tract of Lands to wit, one tract lying on the waters of Little River called Lees tract containing two Hundred acres, one other tract adjoining the Land of James Murdock and David Allison containing One Hundred and Seventy five Acres, one other tract lying on the North fork of Little River adjoining the Lands of Person Dec’d containing Eighty Acres and one other tract adjoining Rountree and Berry containing about two Hundred and fifty acres – And that the proceeds of the said Sales be applied in the
