Find Benjamin Stars Guilty of the Trespass as charged in the Bill of Ind’t. Joel Tate not Guilty.

[OCPQS 7/180 – Aug 1806]

The State vs Benjamin Stark} Found Guilty of a Trespass at this Term. Ordered that the Defendant be imprisoned for two Weeks from this time & stand Committed thereafter until he provide Security for his good behavior & appearance at next Term & pay the Costs of this prosecution.

Ordered that James Walker Exr of Jesse Rice Dec’d be allowed 5 p Cent on the Amount of the Estate of said Dec’d.

[OCPQS 7/181 – Aug 1806]

Ordered that Mark Harris pay to Priscilla Woods the Sum of Twenty Seven pounds as follows Seven pounds immediately, five pounds on the 17th May next & five pounds annually thereafter until the whole shall be paid for the Support of a child of which she hath lately been delivered & of which he stands Charged according to Law as the reputed father. [See Bastardy Bonds, images 1088, 1090 & 1176. See also OCPQS 7/209.]

Ordered that Thomas Hunt pay to Celia Hunt the Sum of Twenty Seven pounds as follows, Seven pounds immediately, five pounds on the 17th May next & five pounds annually thereafter until the whole shall be paid for the Support of a Child of which sd Celia hath lately been delivered and of which he stands charged according to Law as the reputed father. James Webb is appointed Guardian to Wm Moore Orphan of George Moore Dec’d who enters into Bond with Henry Watters, Duncan Cameron & William Norwood his Sec’s in the Sum of £10,000.

The Widow (Martha Benson) of Alexander Benson Dec’d having relinquished her right of Administration on the Estate of said Alex’r Benson Dec’d, Administration on the Estate of said Alexander Benson is therefore granted to Joseph Ming who enters into Bond with William Wilkins & George Horner who enters into Bond in the Sum of £1500.

Administration de bonis non of John Tate Dec’d is granted to Andrew Robinson & Uriah Tate who enters into Bond with Robert Morrow & James Fossett his Sec’s in the Sum of £1000.

James Crutchfield resigns his Guardianship of Joseph Steel. Whereupon the said Joseph Steel chooses Jacob Green his Guardian who enters into Bond with James Mebane & Thomas Whithed in the Sum of £5000.

Leonard Carlton the father of Nancy Carlton, Salley Carlton & Catey Carlton [is appointed their guardian?] who enters into Bond with Joseph Barbee and Jarratt Yeargan in the Sum of £104 each child. [Because they inherited something from their maternal grandfather perhaps?]

Joseph Barbee the father of Nancy Barbee, Major Edward Barbee, Betsy Barbee, Edy Barbee & Horace Barbee [is appointed their guardian?] who enters into Bond with Leonard Carlton and Jarratt Yeargain his Sec’s in the Sum of £104 each child. [Also related to an inheritance from the maternal grandfather?]

Ordered that William Dickie esqr, James Dickie, George Horner & William Wilkins be appointed a Committee to lay off & allot to Martha Benson Widow of Alex’r Benson Dec’d one years provision & stock.

Ordered that Joseph Ming Admr of Alex Benson Dec’d have leave to sell all the personal Estate including a Negro Woman belonging to the Estate of said Alex’r Benson Dec’d.

Ordered that Ansley Macky Son of Elizabeth Macky now of the Age of thirteen years May last be bound to Archelaus Wilson until he arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]

Sally Thompson, John Thompson & Elizabeth Thompson Orphans of Robert Thompson Dec’d come into Court & choose Sam’l Thompson their Guardian who enters into Bond with James Williams his Sec’y in the Sum of £700.

Sam’l Thompson is appointed Guardian to Thomas Thompson & Richard Thompson Orphans of Robert Thompson Dec’d & enters into Bond with James Williams his Sec’y in the Sum of £700.

Administration of the Estate of William Guy Sr Dec’d is granted to William Guy Jr who enters into Bond with James Williams & Thomas Fitch his Sec’s in the Sum of £1000.

Doct’r Barnabas O’Farrell is appointed Overseer of the road from Hillsboro to Joseph Shaws with the usual hands.

Administration of the Estate of Powell Riggains Dec’d is Granted to Ruth Riggains Widow &c who enters into Bond with Charles Trice & Frances Barbee in the Sum of £300.

Ordered that Wm Guy admr of Wm Guy Dec’d have leave to Sell a Negro Man Tom belonging to the Estate of said Intestate for the purpose of affecting an equal distribution of said Estate among the Legatees or Heirs.

Ordered that William Askque [Ayscue] son of Sarah Elmore now of the age of 8 years 18th July last be bound to Robert Faucett until he arrive to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a farmer. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 474.]

On application the Court releases John Taylor Jr from his Covenant respecting Fanny Smith a free Girl of Color who was bound to said John Taylor Jr some time ago. It is thereupon Ordered that the said Fanny Smith daughter of Lucy Smith now of the age of 13 years 2nd March next be bound to said Lucy Smith until she arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a Spinster. [Bond not found.]
