Herbert Sims vs George Carrington} Same Jury charged. Find the money mentioned in the Writing obligatory is of the Value of £67 which is the principal & assess the plffs Damages in Interest to £2.0.1 ½ & Costs, that there is no pay’t or set off.

William P Mangum vs Tyree Duke} Appeal. Same Jury charged. Find the Issues in favor of Defendant.

Hugh McCaddams Exrs vs King & Murdock} Same Jury charged. Find no pay’t or set off & assess the the [sic] plffs Damages to £2.16.11 & Costs. Prin 32.1.6.

William Whitted ass’ee &c vs John Close} Same Jury charged. Find the Dollars mentioned in the bond declared on to be of the value of £200 which is principal and assess the plffs Damages to £6 which is Int, that there is no pay’t or set off.

Wm Whitted ass’ee vs John Close} Same Jury Charged. Find the money mentioned in the bond declared on is of the Value of £50 which is principal & assess the plffs Damages to £2.10, that there is no pay’t or set off.

James Leathers vs John Cain} Appeal. Same Jury charged. Find for the Plff & assess his Damages to £19.18 & Costs.

Ordered that John Ellison son of James Ellison be exempt from payment of County & Parish Taxes in future.

Wednesday 26th August 1812, Court met according to adjournment. Present: James S Smith, Thomas D Bennehan, Thomas Whithed} esqrs.

Ordered that Ephraim Roberts take into his Custody the Children of Nancy Volentine a free woman of color and bring them before this Court on Tomorrow. [See OCPQS 8/394-396.]

The State vs Thomas Bradford} Ind’t. Same Jury Sworn. Find the Defendant Guilty in manner & form as charged in the Bill of Indictment.

The State vs Jethro Bass} Ind’t. Same Jury Sworn. Find the Def’t Guilty in Manner & form as charged in the Bill of Indictment. Judgment that the prisoner be taken hence to the publick Whipping post and there receive thirty Lashes on his bare Back and that the Sheriff of Orange carry this Sentence into execution instanter & that he stand committed until the Costs of Prosecution are paid.

The Execution of a Deed from Willis Sellers to Martin Loy was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Joseph Harder a Subscribing Witness thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/123.]

The Execution of a Deed from John G Rencher to Thomas Steel was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of John N Rencher a Subscribing Witness thereto & ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/133.]

[OCPQS 8/388 – Aug 1812]

Ordered that the Order heretofore made [OCPQS 5/410] binding to James Dunnagan an Orphan Child called [blank, but apparently Solomon McGee] be rescinded. It is therefore Ordered that the said Orphan be bound to Exum Elliott until he arrive to lawful age to learn the Art & mistery of a House Carpenter. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 331.]

The State vs Henry Faucett} Ind’t. Same Jury charged. Find the Defendant Guilty in Manner & form as charged in the Bill of Ind’t.

Thomas Scott is appointed Overseer of the road from Ray’s ford on the Allemance to Trousdale’s old place with the following hands vizt: Arch’d D Murphys hands, John Stockard, Jacob Albright, James Wilkins, Isaac Sharp. Ordered that he Keep the same in good repair.

[OCPQS 8/389 – Aug 1812]

Ordered that William McCauley be appointed Overseer of the Road from McCauley’s Store to Buckhorn at John Reeves in the place of Jehu Bird with the usual hands.

Ordered that Luke Peacock produce the body of Hemelius Patton to next Court that he may be disposed of as the Court may think proper. [See OCPQS 8/408. Hemelius’s mother accuses Peacock of neglect, see Apprentice Bonds, image 517.]

George Fosset vs Phillip Walker Sr, Robert Benjamin, Reuben King} Petition for a Cart or Waggon Way. Whereas the Sheriff in obedience to an Order made at last May Session in this Case, hath summoned a jury and they have laid out a Cart way over and across the lands of them the said Phillip Walker Sr and Robert B R King and the Sheriff hath returned the said verdict and report to this Court, It is ordered and adjudged that the said George Fossett have and he hereby hath leave to open a Cart way fourteen feet wide, over and across the lands of them the said Walker and King, Beginning at the mill seat of the said Fossett.

The Execution of a Deed from Joseph Sloss & wife to James Kenneday was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Joseph Clendening who makes Oath that he is well acquainted with the hand writing of John Sloss one of the Subscribing Witnesses thereto and that the Signature of the said John Sloss is in the proper handwriting of said Sloss and that said Sloss is a resident of another Government, whereupon it is Ordered that said Deed be registered. [See ODB 14/134.]

The Execution of a Deed from William Lindly to Richard Campbell was duly proved in open Court by the affirmation of Wm Lindly a Subscribing Witness thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/136.]

The Execution of a Deed from Kenneth Anderson to Margret Wall was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of William Lockhart a Subscribing Witness thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/162.]

Administration on the Estate of John Riggs Dec’d is granted to Doct’r Benjamin Bullock who enters into Bond with Isaac Holden & Samuel Turrentine in the Sum of £1000.

The Execution of a Deed from Samuel Peeler to from John Copley Sr was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of John Redmond Jr a Subscribing Witness thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/139.]

The Execution of a Deed from John Jackson to William Chamley was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of William Laycock a Subscribing Witness thereto & ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/140.]

The Execution of a Deed from William Keeling to Andrew McBroom was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Samuel Turrentine a Subscribing Witness & ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/138.]

The Execution of a Deed from Arch'd D Murphy to James S Smith was duly acknowledged in open Court by the Subscriber thereto A D Murphy & ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/147.]

The Execution of a Bill of Sale from And'w Rhea to Edward Robson was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Jones Watson a Subscribing Witness thereto & Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/142.]

The Execution of a Deed from Jeremiah Hubbard to Paul Kennion was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of John Taylor a Subscribing Witness thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/162.]

Thursday 27th Aug’t 1812, Court met according to adjournment. Present: Thomas Whitted, John Street, Rob’t Grahams} esqrs.

Administration on the Estate of Henry Fogleman Dec’d is granted to Francis Holt who enters into Bond with Isaac Holt and Archibald D Murphey his Securities in the Sum of £1000.

Administration on the Estate of Susannah Rice Dec’d is granted to Anthony Thompson who enters into Bond with Duncan Cameron his Securities [sic] in the Sum of £100.

Ordered that Isaac Holt esqr, John Cooks, John Graves & Henry Keck are be appointed Commissioners to lay off & allot to Ellenor Fogleman Widow of Henry Fogleman Dec’d one year’s provision out of the stock, crop & provision of said Deceased.

The Execution of a Deed from Joseph Armstrong to Rich'd Cragg was duly acknowledged in open Court by the Subscriber thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/165.]

[OCPQS 8/392 – Aug 1812]

On Motion of Daniel Carthy esqr for administration on the Estate of John Casey Dec’d which was opposed by James Webb the greatest Creditor within? this? state? The Court refused the application on the Ground that the applicant is not the next of Kin, but on which decision the said Daniel Carthy appeal to the next Superior Court of Law for Orange County and offers Fredrick Nash & Alfred Moore Sec’ys in the Sum of £100.

Administration ad collegendum Bon? of the Estate of John Casey Dec’d is granted to James Webb the greatest Creditor of Dec’d who enters into Bond with Duncan Cameron & William Norwood Sec’s in the Sum of £4000.

Administration pendente Lite on the Estate of Rachel Thompson Dec’d is granted to James Thomas who enters into Bond with his Sec’s James Chambers & Allen Sykes in the Sum of £50.

Administration on the Estate of James Thomas is granted to James Thomas who enters into Bond with James Chambers & Allen Sykes his Sec’s in the Sum of £10.

[OCPQS 8/393 – Aug 1812]

Ordered that Norris Harrington Son of Letta Wade now of the age of 5 years 17th Sep’r last be bound to James Ward until he arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a farmer. [This bond not found, but Ward later consented to have Norris re-bound at Apprentice Bonds, image 43.]

Ordered that Anthony Thompson Adm’r of Susannah Rice Dec’d have leave to sell the perishable estate of said Dec’d.

Ordered that Abednigo Volentine Son of Nancy Volentine now of the age of 16 years 6 months be bound to James Allen Latta until he arrive to lawful age to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 534.]

Ordered that Bennett Cole heretofore bound to Sam’l Nevill [OCPQS 8/288] be bound to Wm Chambers, It having been shewn to the Court that said Nevill had notice of this application. [Bond not found.]

Ordered that the Order heretofore made binding to Solomon Wood an Orphan boy named Alsey Wood be rescinded. It is therefore Ordered that said Alsey Wood be bound to Elias Fort until he arrive to lawful age to learn that Art & mistery of a House Carpenter. [Bond not found.]

[OCPQS 8/394 – Aug 1812]

Ordered that James Webb Admr &c of John Casey Dec’d have leave to sell the personal estate of said Dec’d.

On Motion Ordered that Archville Arch’d Carrington pay to Keziah Wood the Sum of Twenty Seven pounds vizt Twelve pounds immediately and five pounds annually until the whole be paid for the Support & maintenance of a child of which said Archville stands charged as the reputed father. [See Bastardy Bonds, images 1573, 1580, 1645, 1646, 1650, 1662, 1820.]

Ordered that Samuel Crabtree Ex’r of Wm Crabtree Dec’d have leave to sell the personal estate of said Dec’d.

Ordered that Susannah B Volentine daughter of Nancy Volentine of the age of 14 years be bound to John Crawford Craig until she arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a spinster. [Bond not found.]

Ordered that Rebecca daughter of Nancy Volentine of the age of Eleven years be bound to Elisha Chizenhall until she arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a Spinster. [Bond not found.]

The Execution of a Deed from John Wilbourne to Baptist Society was duly acknowledged in open Court by John Wilborne the Subscriber thereto & ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/107. This was the now-defunct Wilborn’s Baptist Meeting House near Camp Creek in northeast Durham County. See Upon This Rock by Mark Chilton.]

The Execution of a Bill of Sale from Ashby Dunnagan to Duncan Cameron was duly acknowledged in open Court by the Subscriber thereto and Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/111.]

Friday Morning 28th August 1812, Court met according to adjournment. Present: Ca Campbell, Thomas Whithed, Henry Thompson} esqrs.

Ordered that the Sheriff produces immediately to this Court the Child of Charity Revill a freewoman of color to be dealt with as the Court may direct.

The Sheriff having returned to this Court that he had executed the Writ heretofore directed to him requiring him to summon a Jury to enquire into the State of Mind of Mary Millison widow of John Millison Dec’d & the said Jury having returned to the Court that said Mary is of unsound Mind, It is therefore Ordered that John Thompson be appointed Guardian to said Mary Millison and enters into Bond with Catlet Campbell and John Taylor Jr his Securities in the Sum of £5000.

Ordered that Susannah Revill daughter of Charity Revill a freewoman of Color now of the age of 15 months be bound to Robert Eaton until she arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mystery of a Spinster. [Bond not found and apparently never actually completed. See Apprentice Bonds, images 663-670.]
