recognized to Appear at this Term to give bond & Security for the
Maintenance of a child of which Polley Copley hath lately been delivered, And

produce the said Child to this Court at the next Term, that the said Robert

Ordered that the publick road leading from the far end of
William Kirkland’s lane across Hills Creek be turned so as to run on or near
the line dividing the lands of the said William Kirkland from that of Josiah
Turner lot we till? 8’, so far as the lines extend,
Ordered that the publick road leading from? to
Granville Co & which lies between Little River and Flat River be turned,
Beginning near the place called Wheeler’s field, running thence to the left of
the present road, on the nigh best ground, and to come into the road
again below Rich’d Bennehan’s ???? deal?, and that the overseer of the said
Road do with the usual hands upon the same, and when opened, the said Rich’d
Bennehan may close up that part of the old road so discontinued.

Ordered that Adam Whitsell ?? be appointed Overseer of the
publick road leading from the little Allemance to the Guilford line with the
usual hands.
Ordered that Daniel Whitsell be appointed overseer of the
road from Somers’s mill to Troxler’s on Allemance so as far as the
Guilford road extends with the usual hands.
Ordered that Sterling Harris Esq be appointed Overseer of
the publick road leading from Hillsboro to the Branch at or near Warren’s on
the Person road with the usual hands.
Ordered that Henry Goodrich be appointed overseer of the
publick road from John Cain’s lower place to William Cain’s mill road with the
usual hands.
James Philips is appointed Overseer of the Road from the
East end of Queen Street in Hillsboro to where that road interests the road
leading from the East end of King Street eastwardly with his own hands.
Robert Glenn is appointed Overseer of the road from
Hillsborough to Enoe at Hart & Campbells Mill with the usual hands, in the
room of John Taylor.

Ordered that Isaac Holt Admr of Adam Smith dec’d be allowed
the Sum of five P Cent on the full amount of the Said Estate and that he be
entitled to return the same against the Claims of Creditors & next of Kin.
The Execution of the last Will & Testament of Charles
King dec’d was duly proved in open Court by the Oaths of Edward Robson &
William King the Subscribing Witness thereto And Ordered to be recorded. At the
Same time Elizabeth King Widow &c appeared in open Court and entered her
dissent from the Will of Charles King dec’d. [See OWB D/282.]
William Armstrong of William is appointed Overseer of the
road from Person County line to the North fork of Little River with the usual
hands.

Ordered that Josiah Turner Shff ???? be allowed twenty five
Shillings for his Services in brining John McMunn into Court under the Order of
last Term and that the County Trustee pay the Same.
Ordered that a publick Bridge be erected across the great
Allemance at or near Elfand’s Mill and that Isaac Holt, Michael Holt &
William Holt esqr, Jeremiah Holt & George Albright or any three of them be
appointed Commissioners to contract for the building of the Same, which shall
be paid for by the County after deducting whatever Sum shall be raised by
private contributions.
The State vs Joshua a Negro Slave charged with the Murder of
Abner Tapp} Information. The following persons Freeholds & owners of Slaves
being duly elected, Sworn & impannelled, vizt: Abram Craig, George Isley,
George Reeves, William Kirk, George Albright, George Coble, Jeremiah Holt,
James Nicholson, William Gant, Henry Trollinger, William Palmer, James Barbee.
Find the Prisoner Joshua Guilty of the Felony & Murder as charged. The
sentence of the Court is that the said Joshua be remanded to the public Jail of
this County, there to be safely kept until the 15th day of Marsh
next, on which day the said Joshua shall be carried to the place of public
execution & between the hours of 10 & 3 o’Clock of that day be hanged
until he is dead & the Court doth Order that the Sheriff of this County
carry this Sentence into execution.

Ordered that the Bridge across Haw River erected by Henry
Trolinger & William Gant be established as a toll Bridge, and that the
Proprietor thereof be allowed to charge & receive the following tolls or
rates: for a wagon and Team forty cents, a cart 20 cents, a riding chair 20
cents, for a Horse 5 Cents each, for a man 2 ½ Cents.
Ordered that the Bridge across Morgan’s Creek erected by
Henry Merritt be established as a Toll Bridge and that the proprietor thereof
be allowed to charge & receive the following tolls or rates: for a wagon
Team 20 cents, for Cart 10 cents, a chair 10 cents, man & Horse 5 cents,
for passenger 2 ½ cents.
Ordered that Simon Coupland son of Margret Coupland now of
the age of five years September last be bound to Thomas Carter until he arrive
to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]
