A Deed from Richard Hargraves and Mary his Wife to Edward McClusky having been heretofore proved as to Richard Hargraves, On Motion, James Webb & David Mebane esqs are appointed to take the private examination of Mary Hartgraves as to her Execution of said, Who report that she acknowledges that she executed the same freely, voluntarily & of her own accord with[out] the compulsion of her said Husband. It is therefore Ordered that the said Deed be registered.

Tho V Hargis vs Hugh Montgomery} Same Jury charged. Plaintiff called & non Suit. John Hopkins a Witness in behalf of the plaintiff being called by the Sheriff but failing to appear according to the Subpoena served on him is fined according to Act of Assembly.

Luke Simpson vs William Wilkins} Jury charged No 2: Thomas Taylor, David Yarbrough, Moses Gwinn, James Lindly, William Chambers, John Hunt, Robert Eaton, Alexander Mason, Willis Sellars, John Long, Fredrick Taylor, Abel Rainey – find the Defendant Guilty & within Six Months, that there is no Justification & assess the Plffs Damages to £57.10.

James Webb vs Sam’l Dickins Admr &c} Jury No 1 charged, find the Value of the money mentioned in the bond & assumpsit declared on to be of the Value of £117.12.8 principal money & assess the plaintiffs Damages to £20.15.6 which is Int.

A Deed from Jonathan Lindly to Isaac Harvey having been produced to this Court with the Certificate of Walter Taylor esq’r one of the Judges in & over the Territory of Indiana certifying the due execution of said Deed by said Jonathan Lindly, It is Ordered that the said Deed & Certificate thereon be registered. The Execution of a Bill of Sale from Washington Norwood to William Norwood was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Samuel Webb a Subscribing Witness thereto And Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 14/593.]

The State vs Andrew a Negro Slave the property of Jno Arnold} Jury Sworn, to wit: George Reeves, John Crutchfield, Harrison Trice, Alfred Wortham, Fredrick Taylor, James Hart, William Jinkins, Richard Fossett, James Faucett, William Palmer, James Forsyth, Thomas Fitch. Find the Defendant Guilty in manner & form as charged in the Information. On Motion, the Court adjudges that the Defendant be taken hence to the Public Whipping post and there receive upon his bare Back One Hundred Seventy five Lashes and that the Sheriff carry this Sentence into execution immediately.

Administration of the Estate of George Laws Dec’d [is granted] to Margret Laws Widow of said George Laws who enters into Bond with William Horton and William Leathers her Sec’s in the Sum of £700.

Ordered that John Bowls pay to Salley Polston the Sum of twenty seven pounds, vizt forty Shillings down, five pounds 19th Octo next & five pounds annually thereafter until the whole be paid for the Support & maintenance of a child of which said Sarah hath lately been delivered and of which he stands charged as the reputed father. [See Bastardy Bonds, images 1622, 1675, 1761, 1773, 1775, 1921 & second series 273, 275, 277, 279 & 281.]

Ordered that Charles Wilson son of John Wilson Dec’d now of the age ten years be bound to Alfred Wortham until he arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]

Administration on the Estate of Isaac Holden Newton Dec’d is granted to Isaac Holden who enters into bond with James Cain his Security in the Sum of £100.

Ordered that John O’Daniel of the age of about 12 years Son of Wm O’Daniel Dec’d be bound to Thomas Hastings to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]

Ordered that Henry O’Daniel of the age of ten years son of Wm O’Daniel Dec’d be bound to Thomas James Hastings to learn the art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]

Thursday Morning Feb’y, Court met according to adjournment. Present: Thomas Scott, Michael Holt, James Webb}.

Alexander Russell is appointed Overseer of the road from the fork East of James Palmer’s to Murphy’s Mill with the usual hands.

Allen Cain is appointed Overseer of the road from Little River to Cains Mill road with the usual hands.

Ordered that James O’Daniel Son of Wm O’Daniel Dec’d of the age of 8 years be bound to Rich’d Fosset to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]

A report of the Jury appointed to view & lay off a road from the old Salisbury Road East of William Holts esqr West by Daniel Albright’s post Office to the Guilford road at Powell Troxler’s having been returned the Court adjudges & decrees that said report be set aside and that a Jury be appointed view said road again and assess the Damages sustained by those through whose Land the road passes.

On petition, It is Ordered that the Sheriff summon a ??? Jury to view the road leading from the University to Woody’s ferry near the House of Richard Stanford esqr & lay off the same so as to pass on the South of his house.

On motion, It is Ordered & adjudged that the road leading from Robert Murdocks Crossing Haw River at James Murdocks Bridge by William Rainey’s to Ephraim Cooks be made a Public road and that a Jury be Ordered to lay off the Same and report to next Court.

Ordered that William Kirkland & Wm Whitted be appointed Commissioners with the Treasurer of Public Buildings to contract with a proper person to pave the Street opposite the Court house in Hillsboro. It is also Ordered that One hundred Dollars be appropriated for that purpose out of the monies now in the hand of the Treasurer of Public Buildings.
