James Clark is appointed Overseer of the road from James Clerks to the forks of the road in the room of Wm Parks.

Jacob Councilman is appointed Constable for the District of St Asaphs and enters into Bond with Wm Ray & Jno Siddell [John Sidwell?] Sec’ys. At the same time took the oath of office.

Ezekiel Brewer is appointed overseer of the road in the room of Jno Bowls.

The Court adjourns til tomorrow morning 10 o’Clock.

Administration of Estate of Isaac Watters is Granted to William Evans enters into bond with Isaac Hicks & Robert Campbell and enters into bond in the Sum of £250.

Tuesday Morning 10 o’Clock 29th May 1792, The Court met according to adjournm’t. Present: Wm McCauley, Wm Courtney, Wm F Strudwick, Walter Alves, John Liddell} Esqrs.

Ordered that Thomas Pettagrew [Pettigrew] an orphan boy of the age of nine years August 9th be bound to Andrew Patterson until he arrive to full age. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 190.]

Ordered that Nancy Johnston an orphan child of the age of four years be bound to Andrew Patterson until she arrive to Lawful age. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 200. She was rebound in 1800 at OCPQS 6/18.]

Ordered that Samuel Webb an orphan boy of the age of 6 six years in July 1792 to learn the art be bound to James Dixon to learn the art and mistery of a Cooper, until he arrive to the age of 21 years. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 198.]

Ordered that an Orphan Child named Abner Pettigrew be bound to William Hall till he arrive to the age of twenty one years. [Bond not found. Abner was re-bound at OCPQS 6/142.]

[OCPQS 4/419 - May 1792]

Samuel Benton esq produced into Court a License from under the hands of the Hon the Judges of the Superior Court of Law & Equity to plead & practice as an Attorney in any of the County Courts within this State. Ordered that therefore that he be admited to plead & practice in the Court accordingly, he having taken the oaths prescribed by law for his Qualification.

Walter Alves esq is appointed with Alex in the room of Absalom Tatom, with Alex Mebane and Wm Lylte esqs to examine the accounts and vouchers of John Walker esq County Trustee & report to Court.

Administration of the Estate of William Hawkins is granted to William Hawkins and he enters into Bond with with in the Sum of 200 pounds and give Matthew Cates & Stephen Smith his Securities.

William Mebane is appointed Overseer of the road from Trollingers ford to back Creek in the room of James McCaddams.

The Gov’r vs Aaron Hill late Shff of Randolph, John Arnold, Jno Latham, James Roberts, Samuel Rich, Whitlock Arnold, Sam’l Bundy, Wm Bailey, Isham Fuller, Philbert Wright & John Devenport his Sec’s} Judgm’t by Def’t for £5000 on his Bond as Shff for arrearages of his collection for the year 1790 to be discharged on the Paym’t of £267.7.1 money and int from 1st April 91 til paid.

Administration of the Estate of Robert Jordon is Granted to Thomas Jordon enters into Bond with Wm Shepperd & James Baldridge his Securities in the Sum of £50.

Isaac Dorris is appointed Constable for the District of Chatham & enters into bond with Hardy Hurdle, Edward Gwin his Securities in the Sum of £200 and qualified accordingly.

Joseph Culbertson is appointed Constable for the District of Chatham & enters into bond in the sum of £200 with Thomas Cole & Edward Adkinson his Securities.

Being suggested to the Court that Elizabeth Paul is Dead and that her last Will & Testament was left in possession of Rachael Hart, Ordered that a Summons issue to James Hart & Rachael his wife to being in the said Will of Elizabeth Paul or shew cause why such Will is not by them produced before this Court for probate. Mr [and] Mrs Hart appeared upon examination & was Discharged by the Court. [Evidently testifying that they had no such will, as the court later probated a nuncupative will for Elizabeth Paul at OCPQS 4/428, recorded at OWB B/160.]

William Wallace is appointed Overseer of the road in the room of John Chizenhall from the Cross roads to little river.

Ordered that the Shff Exrs of Christopher Barbee expose to sale the perishable property of sd Christopher Barbee Dec’d & make return to next Court.

George Madden is approved of as Sec’y for Nath’l Carter to in his Bond of £250 directed in the will of Wm Edwards for taking care of distributing the estate of the said Wm Edw’ds agreable to his will. [See OWB A/300.]

John Pugh is appointed Overseer of the road from Col Mebanes to Dorrises Meeting House [Crossroads Presbyterian Church?].

John Price is appointed Overseer of the road in the room of Alexander Piper from the flat rocks to Chatham County line.

Wm Wallace is appointed Overseer of the road from John Hunts to the crossroads in the room of Richard Cate.

Jonathan Lindley Esq vs Wm Galbreath} O Atta. Thomas Dickson Garnishee sworn saith that he gave a note to the Def’t Wm Galbreath Payable on or before the 1st day of November 1790? for £20, that since the attachm’t levied in his hands he was informed by Wm Galbreath that he had disposed of the note but did not say to whom.

James Watson Produces into Court the last Will of John Conner Dec’d which is proved by the oaths of Hugh Molholland & Wm Ray two of the Subscribing witnesses thereto & the same is ordered to be Recorded. [See OWB B/180.]

At the same time Administration of the estate of the said John Conner with the will annex’d is Granted to the said Jones Watson who enters into Bond with Wm Riley & Samuel Austen Sec’ys in the sum of three Hundred Pounds. Darby Conner the son of the said John Connor having in open Court relinquish’d his right of administration of the said Estate.

Know all men by these presents that I John Ashe of the State of North Carolina & New Hanover County have this day bargained with and sold unto Andrew Burke Esq’r of the State aforesaid and County of Orange a certain Negroe man Known by the name of Larry for and in consideration of the Sum of Eighty pounds Currency of North Carolina, the receipt whereof I do hereby the presents acknowledge in full Satisfaction, which Negroe I warrant and defend against the Claim of all other persons whatever to him the said Andrew Burke his Heirs and Assigns forever, given under my hand and Seal at Hillsborough this 1st day September 1791. /Jno Ashe/ {Seal} Witness present J Estes

State of North Carolina, Know all men by these presents that I John Ashe New Hanover County in the aforesaid State, hath this day bargained with and Sold and do by these presents firmly bargain Sell, alien, enfeoff, and deliver a certain Negroe man Slave called and Known by the name of Sampson and about twenty five years of age, for and in consideration of the Sum of one hundred and twenty pounds to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and myself to be fully paid and Satisfied, and the said Negroe man Sampson I warrant and forever Defend to the said Andrew Burke & his Heirs forever, In witness whereof I do hereby set my hand and Seal this fifteenth day of July 1791. /Jno Ashe/ Witness John Allison.
