The Class of Justices of the present Court chooses Wm
McCauley as Chairman.
On motion of Wm Nash Esq Att &c, Administration of the
estate of Rob’t Nale Dec’d is granted to Martha Nale & Sarah Nale the Widow
and daughter of the Dec’d who enters into Bond with Dan’l Cloud & Caleb
Harvey their Sec’y in the sum of £ two thousand pounds. Admr Quallified in open
Court. [See also accounting OCPQS 5/92.]
Henry Nale one of the orphans of Rob’t Nale Dec’d came into
Court and chooses Dan’l Cloud his Guard who enters into Bond with Isaac
Jackson James Miller & Wm Picket Jno Kelley in the sum of one
thousand pounds.
James Miller is appointed overseer in the room of James
Combs from little river to Hillsborough,
Philip Walker is appointed overseer of the road in the room
of John Harvey from Quaker Creek to Stoney Creek.
Ordered that Joseph Ridge an orphan boy of the age of
Sixteen years the 2nd of August next be bound to Nathan Horneday
until he arrive to the age of twenty years to learn the art and mistery of

Mary Scarlett vs Thomas Mulholland} Samuel Thompson
& Jno Taylor two one of the witnesses summon’d in the above suit is
called on their his Subpoenas and fails to appear and give evidence

Elias Lewis Durham is appointed overseer of the road
from Fred Loyds to Chatham County line in the room of Isham Thrift.
Henry Long is appointed overseer of the road from Christmas
ford on Haw river to Ridges Mill ford on the Allemance Creek with the usual
hands.
Ordered that Rob’t Pendergrass a base born child of the age
of seven years called and known by the name of be bound unto Thomas
Gwinn until he shall arrive to the age of twenty one years to learn the art and

Jno Sharpe is appointed overseer of the road from Ridges

On motion of Wm Nash Esqr Atto &c, Administration of the
estate of Arthur Williams be is granted to James Williams & Eliza
Williams and enters into Bond with Thomas Whithead and James Lowey Sec’ys in
the sum of three hundred pounds.
Administration of the estate of James Clark is granted to
Mary Clark the widow of the Dec’d who enters into Bond with Thomas Jordan &

Daniel Huffman is appointed overseer of the Road from Guins
for[d] to Col Oneals instead in the room [of] Robert McCulloch and the

On an Election of Sheriff for the County of Orange, Joseph
Hodge is duly Elected Sheriff of Orange County for the present year.
Abner Benton Bruce is allow’d Twenty pounds for his Ex
officio services as Clerk from February Court 1794 to February Court 1795, and
that the County Treas pay the same.
Abner Benton Bruce is allow’d Twenty pounds for his services
about the lists of Taxables of this County from February 1794 to February 1795.
Ordered that the County Treasurer pay the same.
Joseph Hodge is allow’d fifty pounds for his Ex officio
services from May 1794 to this Term. Ordered that the County Treasurer pay the

Ordered that the Collector of Public taxes Collect 2/ on

Thomas Nelson son of Mathew Wilson Nelson about 17
years old is bound to James McDannel to learn the art and mistery of a Farmer
until he arrive to the age 21 yrs. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 238.]
Jesse Nelson son of Mathew Nelson about the age of 15 years
is bound unto James McDannel as above. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 230.]
Ordered that Martha Nale & Sarah Neale Adm’rs of Robert
Nale dec’d have leave to sell such of the Negroes and other personal estate of
the sd Robert as the sd Adm’rs may in their discretion think fit in order to pay
the Debts and make due distribution and division of the said estate, they
giving Notice and Conducting themselves in the premises according to the act of
the Gen’l Assembly in such case made and provided.
Whereas it appears to this Court that Thomas Nelson and
Jesse Nelson are orphan boys under the age of Twenty one years and that the sd
Thomas and Jesse are illegally detain’d by Wm Nash Esq in his possession, It is
therefore ordered that a writ of Habeas Corpus issue to the sd Wm Nash Esq
Commanding him to bring the said Thomas and Jesse Nelson immediately before the
Justices of this Court now siting.

Ordered by the Court with the consent of the Atto’s that in
future, Commissions Ded po to take depositions to take be read De bene esse
in suits depending in this Court shall be issued by the Cl’k to the party
applying for such commissions without any special order of the Court, whereupon
notice shall be given as follows whare the witness lives 100 miles of under, 10
days, about 100 miles and not excessing 200 miles, 15 days, above 200 miles and
not exceeding 300 miles, 20 days, above 300 miles and not exceeding 400 miles,
30 days and above 400 miles 60 days. All commissions to take Depo instanter to
be ordered by the Court and commissions to be read absolutely shall be ordered
by the Court except whare in cases whare witnesses reside out of the
State, and in such case the Clerk shall issue such commissions on the
application of either parties.
Ordered that the hands of James Hogg in future work on the
road from the River at Samuel Thompsons to the fork of the Roads below William
Couches.

Jno Rhodes is appointed to receive the list of taxables in
the District of St Marks for the present year.
Wm Nunn is appointed to receive the list of taxable in the
District of St Thomases for the present year.
Walter Alves is appointed to receive the list of taxable in
the District of St Marys for the present year.
Hardress Hawkins is appointed to receive the list of
Taxables in the District of St Asaphs.

Ordered that in future the trial Docket be proceeded on on
the 1st day of the Term, and that the appeals shall be tried on the
Friday of the Term, and that the Clerk give public notice hereof.

Ordered that in future the Sheriff and all other officers
shall be appointed on friday of the Court & that the Clerk give Public
Notice of this order.
Ordered that Wm Bryan Sr open the a road with the
following hand open a new road as marked out by the Jury from Joseph Hodge to
the Widow Hulgans.
Whereas it is necessary that overseer of roads should be
appointed at a certain Court in each and every session year, It is
therefore ordered by the Court that in future all returns of overseers of roads
for new appointments be on the friday of February Court week, after the
expiration of the present appts and such as fail to make returns on that day
will be considered as a ??? until the Friday following.
Wm Bryan Sr is appointed overseer of the road from
Trolingers road to Benjamin Roneys on back Creek with the following hands: John
Patton Jr, Walter McFarlin, James Bryan, Benj Roney, Steward Dixon, James
