Nathaniel Carrington v. Joseph Brittain} O atta. William P Mangum in Whose hands this attachment was levied & he summoned as Guarnishee appeared in open Court & being Sworn States that he understands that Deft left sundry Notes & accounts in the hands of Enoch Collins & Moses Guess with authority to collect the Money due upon them, that he understands & believes that George Carrington has in his possession a Negro Girl Slave the property of the defendant, that the stud horse known by the name of Little Driver is the property of the Defendant. The said Mangum being unable to make a full Guarnishment as to himself is continued for further examination.

The Executors of William Mebane Dec’d are allowed 5 pr ct on the Amount of the receipts & disbursements.

Ordered that Andrew Gray pay unto Jeany Robinson the Sum of Twenty Seven pounds in Annual payments, vizt, forty Shillings down & five pounds annually until the Whole be paid for the Support & maintenance of a Child of which said Jeany Robinson [has lately been delivered] & of which said Andrew Gray stands Charged according to Law as the reputed father. Ordered that William Chambers pay to Hattey Crabtree twenty five pounds as follows, vizt five pounds immediately & five pounds annually thereafter until the whole be paid for the Support & Maintenance of a Child of which she hath lately been delivered & of which he stands Charged as the reputed father. [Bastardy Bonds, images 1160 & 1257. The child’s name was Peggy Crabtree – see OCPQS 8/411.]

Ordered that Robert Burnside pay to Peggy Ringstaff the Sum of Twenty Seven pounds vizt Twelve pounds immediately & five pounds annually until the whole is paid for the Support & maintenance of a Child of which she has lately been delivered & of which he stands charged as the reputed father. [Not found in Bastardy Bonds. The child was perhaps James Ringstaff? – see OCPQS 10/60.]

The Commissioners appointed by order of the last Court to divide the land devised by John Barbee dec’d between his Sons Mark, Young & John lying in this County having returned a Report from which with the Surveys annexed it appears that a part of the Land divided of which the said John died seized & possessed is not divided among the said Legatees, it is ordered that the said Report and Survey be recommitted to the said Com’rs who are required to divide the said undivided part of said land among the said legatees, and make report of their proceedings to next Ct.

On Petition of Joseph Barbee, John Barbee, Mark Barbee, William Barbee by his Guardian the said Mark Pretty Rhodes, Silvia Jenkins, Edi Carrol, Sarah Williams, Rory Rickman?, Betsy Rainey, Parthenia Barbee, the Brothers and Sisters of Young Barbee dec’d praying to have the land of which the said Young died seized of and lying within this county divided among them, it is ordered that Mann Paterson, Chesley P Patterson, Geo Johnson, Reuben Burroughs and John Moore be appointed Commissioners and James Latta Esq Surveyor to divide and allot the said land among said Petitioners and make report to next Ct.

Administration of the Estate of William Lockhart Dec’d is granted to William Lockhart Jr who enters into Bond with James Phillips & James Webb his Securities in the Sum of £2500.

Ordered that John Laws Orphan of William Laws Dec’d aged 12 years 7th April last be bound to Thomas Laws until he arrive to lawful age to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]
