At a County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions begun and
held for the County of Orange in Hillsborough on the 4th Monday of
November 1790 Being the [blank] day of the said month of November & 15th

The Sheriff returns the Venire facias Executed, to wit: James

The Grand Jury impanneled & sworn, to Wit: Sackfield
Brewer Foreman, Tobias Smith, Jacob Garrison, Enoch Collins, Wm Dossett, Jas
Dixon, Sampson Wood, Jno Galbreath, Benj’n Roney, Barney Grimes, Jacob Beason,
Rob’t Baker, Jno Holden, Reuben Smith.
Eli Newland is appointed overseer of Road from Stofle Holts
to Wm Rays ford on ye Alamance in the room of Jno Powell.
Mary Cantrill came into Court & qualify’d as Executrix
to her Husbands Will & is allow’d Letter Testamentary. [See OWB B/102.]
Wm Shepherd is appointed overseer of the Road from Town to
said Shepherds in the room of David Gilston.
Jas Robertson is appointed overseer of the Road from
Griffins spring Branch to Wm Allison.
Jno O’Dannell excus’d from attending as a Juror this Court.
Wm Holliday came into Court & was excus’d for his non
attendance at August Term.
Wm Galbreath excus’d from attending at this Court.
Ro Faucett appointed overseer of the road from Rob’t ??
Spring branch to the bank of Enoe river in the room of Geo Long.

David Edwards & Wm Edwards orphans of David Edwards came
into Court & chooses ??? Edwards their Uncle Guardian who enter into Bond
in the Sum of £200. Lewis Kirk & Thos Conally Sec’s.
??? Collins is appointed overseer of the Road from Bentons
Mill to Brice Collins in the room of Martin Palmer.
Ordered that Charles Dun an Orphan Boy aged 3 years last
Augt be bound to Francis Jones till he arrive to the age of Twenty one to learn
the Art & mysteries of a Shoemaker. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 185.]
???? Austin appointed overseer of the road form the Ford of
the river at Hillsb’g to Tho Mortases in room of James Pratt.
Court adjourn’d till tomorrow M’g 10 O’Clock.
Tuesday Morning Novem’r 23d, The Court met in

Lewis Hornday appointed Overseer of the Road from Chatham
Line to Col Willis in the room of Nathan Wells.

& admitted as an Atty to plead in this Court.
John Caldwell is appointed overseer of the Road from the
Meadows to Rob’t Bakers in the room of Sam ????
Joseph Clendening comes into Court & resigns his Commission
as Constable.
Jno Moore is appointed Overseer of the Road from ??? Creek
to the east of New Hope to the fork of the road in the room of Edw’d Couch, the
following hands to work under him, To Wit: Aaron Estis, Bun Sears, Jno S????,
Phil Allen, Geo Daniel, Wm Hudson Jr, Ch?? ???, Jno Robertson, Jno Duggar,
Leo’d Duggar, Alex’r Duggar, Chas Edwards, Jos Bilbow, Jas Davis, Ric’d Davis,
Rose Sears & Edward Couch.
Jno G Rencher Collector for St Marks & St Thos Districts
exhibited his list of Insolvents & was allowed 14 poles & 1111 acres of
Land.
On motion on affadavit in behalf of Billy Gooch, Ordered
that a Certiorari issue to Jas Hutchison, ??? Eccles Constable & Jno Walker
Esqr to appear at ??? Court & bring up all the procedings relative to a
dispute between sd Gooch & Jas Hutchison & an order issue to the
Constable to say all further proceedings.
Order’d that Daniel Massey be appointed Overseer of the road
from Jas Vaughan to the Chatham line in the room of Ezekiel Trice.

Ordered that two
Mulatto Children Ezekiel Revils aged 3 years & Chia Revils aged 12 be bound
to Rob’t Neil giving to each 1 years schooling. [See Apprentice Bonds, image

Order’d that Letters
of Administration be granted to Hugh Woods on the Estate of Patrick McCulloch
deceased. [See also perishable property to be sold OCPQS 4/315.]
David Hall appointed Overseer of the Road from Jas Vaughan
to Mark Pattersons in the room of Wm Shepherd.
Court adjourned till to [morrow] morning Ten O’Clock
Wednesday Morning Novem’r 24th, Court met
agreeable to adjournment. Present: Jno Ray, Wm Watters, T H Perkins} Esqrs.
Agreeable to an Order of the County Court & petition of
Theophilus Thompson to turn the road round a Hill on the Road leading from Town
to Gen’l Persons the following jurors being summon’d to Wit: Jno Estis, Wm
Whitehead, Jehu Whitehead, Joseph Moore, Thomas Watts, Joseph Stubbins, And’w
Burke, Henry Thompson, Rob’t Ferguson, Geo Clinecy?, ??? Newman, Sterling Harris,
Say on their return they have laid off & mark’d the sd road agreeable to sd
order. Order’d that Theophilus Thompson open the same and that ??? Williams and
the hands under him keep it in repair.

15. Embree vs Thompson} Cov’t. The following Jury being
sworn, To Wit: Walter Alves, Sam’l Turrentine, Jno Torrentine, Rob’t Ferguson,
Rob’t Scoby, Jno Latta, Thos Watts, Jno Allison, Hugh Finley, Jno Collins, Geo
Newton, James Christmas. Juror withdrawn.
Stephen Hart appointed Overseer of the Road from Hillsboro
to Brice Collins’s Crossing Enoe at Dickey ford.
On motion of Jno Williams Esqr atty for Zacheus Tate Ordered
that Certiorari issue with a Supersedias to bring up the proceeding in a cause
wherein Jno G??? is Plaintiff & sd Tate defendant due? Jno Sloss Esqr Justice,
Jno Bowers Const.
Taylor Mebane & Co vs James Williams} O Att. [Jury:]
James McCollock, David Fosset, Thomas Barton, Joseph Staulsworth, James Gray,

assess his damages to £492.1.3 costs of suit.
Letters of
administration is granted John Armstrong Collec’t &c on the Estate of James
Armstrong who enter into bond with [blank] securities in the Sum of [blank]. [See

Ordered that the Sum of one Shilling on each pole and the
Sum of four pence on each Hundred acres of Land ?? this & one Shilling for
each hundred for each hundred pounds of Town Property in this County for the
year 1790.
On Motion of Jno Dunnivan by Wm Nash Esqr for a Certiorari
& Supersedias to issue to Wm Love & Jno Sloss Esqr & Isaac Dorris
Const’le to bring up the proceedings in a dispute between Wm Love plaintiff
& sd Dunnivan.
Ordered that the Sheriff advertize & sell the perishable
property of Patrick McCullock & make return to next court. [See also

James Walker comes into Court & pays the Clerk four
pounds for the use of Anne Horton agreeable to an Order of sd Court is’d to
