Samuel Hill Constable Sworn to attend the Grand Jury this Term.

Joseph Wells Jr records his ear mark to Wt: Two Crops & two underbits.

Administration of the estate of Powel Kimbrow Dec’d is granted to Jeremiah Kimbro who enters into Bond with James Patterson, Jacob Graves & Wm Roze [or Rogers?] his Sec’ys in the sum of £200, and took the oath.

Edward Walton[?] & Jacob Flowers are appointed Guardians of John Morgan & Soloman Park Morgan and they to enter into Bond in the sum of £2000 and [blank] Securities – no Security given.

Douglass Copland is appointed overseer of the road from Wm Caines to Brantons old place in the room of Wm Lewis Dec’d.

Jury Sworn, to Wt: Abraham Thompson, Dan’l Greene, Thomas Horner, John Durham, Absalum Roach, Enuch Collins, John Moore, Jacob Graves, Mann Patterson, Rob’t Berry, James Clarke, Caleb Harvey - find the Bond to be the act and Deed of John Ray, that there is no set off & assess the plaintiff Damages to £59.12.0 & Costs.

Administration of the estate of John Stark Dec’d is granted to Ruth Stark the Widow & relict of the sd John who enters into Bond with Hardy Hurdle & Samuel Ector Securities in the sum of £400, and took the oath accordingly. [See also accounting OCPQS 5/242.]

Administration of the estate of Wm Dorris dec’d is granted Mary Dorris the widow &c and Wm Dorris the sun &c who enters into Bond with James Morrow & Tobias Stalcup in the sum of £300 and took the oath.

Nancy Benton vs Collins & Wizener} No 9. Covenant, plead Covenant performed. Wm O’Neal vs Joseph Montgomery} Debt. [Jury:] Jno O’Daniel, Wm Moore, Henry O’Daniel, Jas Kirk, Dav’d White, Martin Palmer, Wm Andrews, Rob’t Smith, Peter Rightsman, Jno Kelley, Wm Woods, Tho Linch - Being sworn and charged, find & say they find the Bond paid.

Ordered That sci Fa issue to John Barlow to attend at next Court and shew cause if any he hath why Judgment final shall not be entered up against him for his fine in not attending a Witness in the suit Wm Brooks Plff vs And’w Brooks Defend at our August Court last. [See OCPQS 5/30.]

Agreable to the prayer of a petition of a number of the inhabitants of the neighbourhood of the University, Ordered that the following Jury, or either twelve of them mark of[f] and lay out a new road from the East end of Franklin Street in the Village adjoining the university the most convenient way into the new hope road leading from Raleigh to the University, to Wt: Edm’d Jones, Benjamin Yeargan, Edward Jones, Alston Jones, Jarrot Yeargan, Abraham Allen, Mann Patterson, Page Patterson, John Moore, John Davis, Dan’l Boothe & Jno Scott.

On motion to the Court, Ordered that Walter Murrow have leave to build a Grist Mill across quaker Creek and the same be considered in future a publick Mills.

John Buckhan vs Dan’l Williams} Debt No 13. Jury sworn, to Wt: Nath’l Morrison, Thomas Horner, James McDannel, Owen Lindley, Armer King, Sam’l Green, Joseph Montgumry, Tho Love, Abreham Thompson, Ezekiel Trice, Tho Horton, James Rogers - find the Bond not pd and assess that there is no set off & assess the Plaintiffs damages to £8.11.7 ½ Prin £26.5, in the whole £34.16.7 ½.

Mann Patterson by the Justices &c vs Rhodes & Grisham ???????} Debt No 14. Pleas Gen’l issue, paym’t and set off. A Jury the same as No 13 being impanneled & Sworn, find that the Bond mentioned in the plaintiff’s declaration is the act and deed of the defendant, that the defendant has not paid it & that there is no sett off & that the said Mann Patterson has sustained damage to the amount of four hundred and forty one pounds six shillings in consequence of the default of John Patterson his Guardian. £441.6.0 [See also guardianship OCPQS 4/26.]

Ordered that the administrator or Administratrix of the Estate of Wm Courtney Deceased or either of them have leave to sell Negro Charles In order to pay a debt due Herbert Heans?, they observing to Advertise according to Law. [See also administration OCPQS 4/639, slave & perishable property to be sold OCPQS 4/554, guardianship OCPQS 5/527, partition of land OCPQS 5/533, guardianship OCPQS 5/551 & OCPQS 6/315.]

Ordered that Wm Scott be appointed overseer of the road from Haw river Trolingers ford to Back Creek to work the former hands on said Road.

William Carrington is appointed Constable for the St District of Saint Maris it is excepted[?] & gives enters into Bond with Jno Carringto[n] & Thomas Horton as Security accordingly which appointment is to be renewed at February Court. Qualified accordingly.

37. Wm Nash Esq James Philips vs Wm Nash Esq} Case. The above Jury sworn, find Defendant did assume and assess the plaintiffs Damages £21.8.6 & 6d Costs.

On Motion, Ordered that Thos Lewis be appointed Guardian of John Lewis a minor & enter into bond with sufficient security for the faithful performance of his Guardianship. Thos Lewis enters into bond with Jno G Rencher & Wm Browning securities in the sum of £200 for the faithful discharge of his Guardianship of sd John Lewis a minor. [OCPQS 5/54 - Nov 1795]

Trustees of the University vs Rob’t Campbell & Nath’l Christmas. Jury sworn to wit and charged: Daniel Green, Thomas Horton, Thomas Horner, Nath’l Morrison, Abraham Thompson, Jno Workman, Sam’l Thompson, Tho Horne, Wm Browning, Jno Thompson Wm Mebane, Eli Newland, Jno Gant. Sworn & charged, find penalty of the Bond £109, the Condition of the Bond to be £27.5.0 payable in one year from the daye, £27.5.0 payable in two years from the date of the Bond which is the 12th day of October 1793 further find that on the 29th of August 1795 there was a payment of £18.0.0 made and that their [sic] is no set off.

William Holt is charged with an assault and submits and is fined £25 and and [sic] Costs (fine remited to five pounds)

Jno Rives is appointed Comerster? in the room of for the County of Orange and enters into Bond with Wm Mebane, Rich’d C??? and Thomas Lynch £3000 according to Law.

Thursday morning 26th November 1795, Court met according to adjournment. Present: Wm Courtny, And[rew] Murdock, James Christmas} Esqrs.

8. The State vs James Riggs} Ind’t Ass’t Mary Conner pros. Jury sworn, to wt: John Carrington, Thomas Horner, Dan’l Green, Nath’l Morrison, Thomas Horton, Abreham Thomson, James Hogg, Henry Thompson, Wm Browning, John McKerrel, Sam’l Clenney, John Gant - find the Defend’t Guilty, fin’d 20/.

Ordered that Joseph Neeley the reputed father of a base born child of the body of Mary Parker pay unto the sd Mary Parker immediately five pounds and five pounds annually for 4 years to come, in the whole £25 for the Support and maintenance of the sd child. [See Bastardy Bonds, image 647.]
