payment & Stat lim. Jury charged, to wit: David Patterson, Sam’l Woods, Wm
Clark, Wm Woods, Rich’d Bird, William Murray, William Wolf, Andrew McBroom,
Martin Palmer, Rich’d Thompson, Rich’d Leigh, Sam’l Clenny. Find that the
Defendant did assume & within three years, that there is no payment of set
off & assess the Plaintiffs Damages to £35.10 & Costs.

9. William Gill vs John Carrington} Debt, payment & set
off. Jury sworn & charged, to wit: Jno Witesides, Jno Carson, George Reeves
Sr, William Blackwood, Joshua Witty, Thomas Browning, David Gilson, Sherwood
Allen, Robert Faucett, Isaac Holt, John Warren, James Pratt. Find a payment
that the one hundred Dollars mentioned in the Bond to be of the Value of £50,
they find that on the 25th June ’98 there was a payment of £.6/ that
there is no set off & assess the plaintiffs damages to £5.9 & Costs
[adding] Principal 50 [totaling] £55.9.

The Execution of the last Will & Testament of John Estes
Deceased was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Francis Child who was at
the Execution of the will, Frances McKarall McKerrall & Absalom
Tatom the Subscribing Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, at the same
time Eliza Estes one of the Executors named in the Will qualified &c. [See OWB C/153.]

pleads not Guilty, non assault demesne. Jury Sworn, to wit: David Patterson,

James Baldridge comes into Court and recorded his Ear Mark,
to wit: A crop & an under Keel in the left Ear & a Slit & an under
Keel in the Right Ear.

Isaac Patterson comes into Court and records his ear mark: a
smooth Crop in the right and an under bit in the right Ear.
A bond for Thomas Mulhollan
Administration with the Will annexed of the Estate of
Coo[n]rod Messer Smith is granted to Samuel Turrentine who enters into Bond
with Alexander Turrentine & William Clark who enter into Bond in the Sum of
£100. [See OWB C/155.]
Administration of the Estate of Nathaniel Robinson Dec’d is
granted to Thomas Robinson who enters into Bond with Mark Durham, John Pickard
and Nathaniel Robinson who enter into Bond in his Securities in the sum
of £4000. [See also partition of real estate OCPQS 6/256, guardianships OCPQS
6/364.]
A Bond given on the twenty third day of May one thousand
seven hundred and ninety five, to David English for sixty pounds penalty, to
Convey to the said David English one hundred and sixty fifty acres of
Land, lying in the County of Orange adjoining the lands of John Parks, James
McCanlis & Thomas Person, was duly proved in open Court by the oath of
James Baldridge one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and it was also
proved by the said Baldridge that the purchase money for the said land is fully
paid and discharged, and on Motion the said Bond is ordered to be Registered.

Edwards, Isham Thrift & Charles Christmas be & they are hereby appointed
as Commissioners to divide the Negro Slaves of Nathaniel Robinson dec’d among
the Representatives of said Nathaniel.

The Execution of a Deed from Mann Patterson to John Moore
was duly acknowledged in open Court by the said Mann Patterson and ordered to

Sterling Harris Esqr returns the List of Taxable property by
him taken in the District Town of Hillsborough for the year 1799.
John Taylor Esqr returns the List of Taxable property by him
Taken in the District of St Thomas for the year 1799.
Francis Moreland Esqr returns the List of Taxable Property
by him taken in the District of St Marks for the year 1799.
On Motion, Ordered that Richard Simpson, Zepheniah Tate
& Asirias Graves be and they are hereby appointed to lay off the Negroes of
Zacheus Tate Dec’d in Lotts as nearly equal as possible…Which said Lotts are to
be drawn for in their presence by the Children of the said late Zacheus & a
fair statement of the procedure of those hereby appointed is to be returned to
the next County Court.

The Execution of the last Will and Testament of Enoch Lewis
Dec’d was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Mann Patterson a Subscribing
Witness thereto and ordered to be recorded, at the same time John Moore and
Abner Massey qualified as Executors to the same. [See OWB C/156.]
The Execution of a Deed from William McCord to Charles
Wilson was duly acknowledged in open Court and ordered to be registered. [See
ODB 8/248.]
The Execution of a Deed from William McCord to Isaac Dorm
was duly acknowledged in open Court and ordered to be registered. [See ODB
8/249.]
On Motion, Ordered that Charles Hood be & he is hereby
exempted from public Taxes by reasons shewn the Court.
On Motion, Ordered that Reuben Boroughs pay unto Hannah
Blackwood £2.10/ he having by means of William Blackwood paid £4.10/ for the
maintenance of a child of the said Hannah from the tenth day of August 1797 to
the tenth day of August 1798 and that the said Reuben immediately pay to the
said Hannah the further Sum of five pounds for the maintenance of said Child in
the year ending on the 10th Aug’t 1799 and that he the said Reuben
pay to the said Hannah £5 on the 10th Aug’t next ?????? and
thereafter £5 p annum £5 for two years for the maintenance of the said Child
from the 19th Aug’t 1798 until the end of the time aforesaid. [See

[OCPQS 5/638 - Nov 1799]
Saturday Morning 30th Nov’r 1799, Court met
according to adjournment. Present: Sterling Harris, James Baldridge, John
Rhodes} Esqrs.
Ordered that the Sheriff bring into Court Paul Keenon an
Orphan Boy now living with Mr Jos Sharp of the Town of Hillsborough. [Bond not
found. Paul had previously been bound to John Carter OCPQS 5/564 and was
rebound at OCPQS 5/639.]
Ordered that Pleasant Roberts Son of Mary Roberts now of the
age of sixteen years 24th May last be bound to William Palmer to
learn the art & mistery of a Joiner. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 373.]
The State vs Wm Baldridge} The Court having reconsidered,
the Judgment in this case heretofore given be remitted down to 15 days on the
pay’t of Costs.

Ordered that Paul Keenon Son of Laurence Keenon now of the
age of 11 years & 4 months be bound to Robert Eaton to learn the art &
mistery of a Carpenter. [Bond not found. He was previously bound at OCPQS
5/564.]
Ordered that William Watson now of the age of Eighteen years
be bound to Bennett Watson to learn the art & mistery of a Carpenter &
that the said Bennett shall give the sd William Watson 6 mo Schooling. [See
Apprentice Bonds, image 371.]
Ordered that Goodwin Watson now of the age of 17 years be
bound to Bennett Watson to learn the art & mistery of a Carpenter and the
said Bennett is to give the said Goodwin 6 mo Schooling. [See Apprentice Bonds,
image 370.]
On oath of Wm F Strudwick Esqr it is allow’d by the Court
that the Clerk of this Court has in his possession a Certificate form the
Secretary of State for the delivery of the Transcript of the Entry Takers Books
of this County which Certificate Sam Benton pledges himself to produce &
file in this office otherwise to take nothing for the allowance which the Court
are now about to make for transcribing said Books.

Ordered that the Clerk of this Court be allowed the Sum of
£200 for Copying & Transmitting to the Secretary of State Copies of the
Entry Takers Books of this County.
