State of North Carolina, At a Court of Pleas & quarter Sessions begun & held for the County of Orange at the Court house in Hillsborough on the fourth Monday in November 1815. Present: Henry Thomson, Joseph Moore, Robert Murray} Esqrs.

Tuesday Morning, Court met according to adjournment. Present: John Cabe, Samuel Child, Robert Murray} esqrs.

The Execution of the last Will & Testament of George Laws dec’d was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Thomas Latta & William Dollars the Subscribing Witnesses. Leonard Laws & Ezekiel Laws two of the Executors therein named qualified accordingly. [See OWB D/454.]

Ordered that the Executors of George Laws Dec’d have leave to Sell the perishable property of said Dec’d.

John Scott esqr is appointed Solicitor for the County pro tempore.

Noah Mitchel vs Robert Murray esqr} Ordered that the Deposition of Polley Mitchel be taken at three days notice to be read (de bene esse) in behalf of the Plaintiff.

Hester Doherty Widow of James Doherty dec’d appears in open Court and Relinquishes her right to administration on the Estate of her dec’d Husband. Administration is therefore granted to Samuel Cole who enters into Bond with John Cole Senr and John Cole Jr in the Sum of £500.

Ordered that the County Trustee advance money Sufficient to purchase a Book suitable for the register to enter Deeds &c therein.

The State vs Charles Jones} It is Ordered that the Defendant be committed to Jail until he find Sufficient Security for his appearance at the next Superior Court himself in the Sum of £500 & his Securities in the Sum of £250 each to answer for an assault on Jane Creek – all to be bound jointly & Severally.

The Execution of a Bill of Sale from John Faddis to Samuel Turrentine was duly proved in Open Court by the Oath of Tho Clancy a subscribing Witness thereto & Ordered to be registered. [See ODB 15/176.]

The Execution of a Bill of Sale from Samuel Holaday to Absalom Alston was duly proved in Open Court by the oath of Gray Barbee a Subscribing Witness thereto and ordered to be registered. [See ODB 15/177.]

Ordered that Willie McBroom [OR DOES THIS SAY WALTER?] son of Sally Riggs bow of the age of five years 14th April next be bound to his mother Sally Riggs until it arrive to lawful age. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 546.]

Ordered that the Sheriff bring to the Court the five younger Children of Delilah Ward for the purpose of having them bound out. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 548.]

Ordered that James Roach Son of Nancy Roach now of the age of Eight Years 15th May next be bound to William Bradshaw until he arrives to lawful age to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [See Apprentice Bonds, image 687.]

On petition, It is Ordered that Francis Jones have leave to build a Mill on Newhope Creek at the place Known by the name of Parks old Fish Trap.

Ordered that Daniel Cloud pay to Elizabeth Patsy Cheek the Sum of Twenty seven pounds as follows, to wit: Seven pounds immediately & five pounds annually until the whole is paid for the Support of a Child of which Patsy Cheek single Woman hath lately been delivered. [See Bastardy Bonds, image 1790.]

Alexander Mason vs Isaiah Cates} Inst Ex. Ordered that a Scire facias issue according to Act of Assembly.

James Webb v. John McDaniel} Jury charged: John Mason, Andrew Watson, Moses Gwinn, James Chambers, William Palmer, Thomas Latte, Daniel Cloud, Thomas Faucett, Alexander Mason, John Patton, James Craig, Charles McCauly. Being impannelled by Consent find that Defendant doth detain the Negroe Boy Lewis mentioned in the Plaintiffs Declaration, that he is of the Value of five hundred Dollars & assess the plaintiffs Damages to ten Dollars & Costs.

Ordered that Nathaniel Norwood pay to Elizabeth Witsman Twenty Seven pounds vizt Two pounds immediately, five pounds on the 1st April next & five pounds annually thereafter until the whole is paid for the Support of her Child of which he stands Charged as the father. Ordered that the Sheriff summon a Jury to make inquiry into the state of mind of John Wells, and make report to the next Court.

James Mebane is appointed Guardian to James, Nancy, Joseph, Calia, Seyborne, Lemuel & Cynthia Lynch Orphan Children of Moses Lynch dec’d who enters into bond with Joseph Allison & John Taylor Jr his Securities in the Sum of £500.

Ordered that William Gates Son of Stephen Gates now of the age of three years 20th June last be bound to William Kell until he arrives to lawful age to learn the Art & mistery of a farmer. [Bond not found.]

William Walker & George McCulloch are appointed Administrators pendent Lite of Joseph McCullock Dec’d who enter into Bond with Thomas Loyd, Thomas ??? ???????? Andrew McCullock, David Gilston & Samuel Edmiston Sec’s in the Sum of £2000.

Ordered that John Taylor Senr & Pleasant Henderson be appointed Commissioners to contract with a proper person for the repairs necessary to be made to the Bridge across Ben’s Creek near Mrs Sears.

Ordered that Polly Wyatt daughter of Elizabeth Benson Now of the age of five years 28th March next be bound to Reuben Benson until She arrives to lawful age to learn the art & mistery of a Spinster. [Bond not found.]

Administration on the Estate of Barbary Powell dec’d granted to John Powell her husband who enters into Bond with Jacob Boon & John Clapp in the Sum of £500.
